How to tie a Neck Tie: Prince Albert Knot

The prince Albert knot is one of the larger neck tie knots. It is a very versatile knot that is best suited for neckties made our of a thinner material.

  1. Flip up your collars, and place the necktie around your neck so that the wide end crosses over the narrow necktie end.
  2. Start wrapping the wide end of the necktie around the narrow end. Typically two wraps are used for the Prince Albert neck tie knot. If you prefer an even larger neck tie knot, or in case you are tying a really thin neck tie, you might prefer 3 or even 4 complete wraps.
  3. Create a loop in front of the neck tie knot on the last wrapping. Hold it open with one or two fingers, and pull the wide end of the neck tie through this loop from the back.
  4. Tighten the neck tie knot slowly, and you are done.

The Price Albert neck tie knots are quite tricky to tie the right way. A few simply tricks might help you to tie this knot like a pro:

  1. Holding down the narrow end tight with one hand will make all the wrapping much easier, and will keep the unfinished knot in place.
  2. Make sure to slightly tighten the unfinished knot after each wrapping. This will prevent that the underneath laying wraps show through.
  3. In step #3 keep the loop open with one finger while holding the knot and the narrow end tight.
