Black Tie Attire

Formal Dress Code:

The traditional black tie look consists of a black tuxedo jacket, tuxedo pants, white tuxedo shirt, black bow tie, and white pocket square. Most common is the flat, or also called “Presidential” pocket square fold for this occasion.

“Warm-Weather” Black Tie

In warm weather it is quite common to swap the black tuxedo jacket with a white one. Most of the time the bow tie will stay black, but white bow ties are quite common as well. The pocket square is switched to a black one to create a nice contrast to the jacket. The plants traditionally stay black.

Contemporary Black Tie Attire:

Today, men have many choices in their formal attire. Tuxedo rental place often times confuse with an endless selections of colors and cuts. For non-traditional black tie events, wearing a light blue or pink tuxedo could be quite fun, but is a definite NO for traditional black tie events. Stick to a black or a white jacket (warm weather black tie). For contemporary/modern black tie, you can swap the bow tie for a classy, formal necktie. Vests that match your necktie and pocket square color are well suited. Preferred are colors that are not too flashy such as silver, gray, and dark blues.
